If I was an advertising man and I had to create a strapline for UC I’d go for something along the lines of ‘collaboration that drives innovation’
Of all areas in ICT, I’d argue that unified communication (UC) is the biggest jargon-magnet. We talk converged, collaborative, capabilities, leveraging, transformation…I could go on. All valid terms and all describing the UC environment, but language that keeps the focus on product technicalities, rather than on the experience and benefits of UC, i.e. what it can do for you.
This has even come to Gartner’s notice and they recommend a UC approach that focuses on projects and what they’ll achieve, rather than focusing on UC technology¹
So what does UC offer you? How can it help you solve your business challenges?
Think of it as a way of changing the way we do things for the better. Here are just a few of the ways UC can help you and your organisation:
- Speeding up the decision-making process, making your organisation more agile and efficient in putting ideas into action.
- Pulling your whole organisation together without upping sticks and moving everyone into the same physical place, connecting dispersed sites and teams and helping people work better together.
- Wasting nothing, getting the most out of existing investment while moving your ICT forward.
- Reducing travel costs, and cutting out the unproductive time spent getting to and from meetings.
- Making flexible working truly possible, giving your people a better work-life balance and helping you hold on to valuable employees.
- Increasing everyone’s productivity, sharing valuable knowledge and making sure everyone has the most up-to-date information.
- Making green a reality by cutting down on travel and letting your organisation protect the environment.
If I was an advertising man and I had to create a strapline for UC I’d go for something along the lines of ‘collaboration that drives innovation’.
This is a really important thought to hold on to, particularly this year as we all prepare for an extra busy summer. UC holds the key to keeping business-as-usual amidst the traffic disruptions, problems with people getting in to work and the extra demand many organisations will experience.
All this makes now the perfect time to get the advice you need that’ll help you make informed decisions about UC projects and the benefits they can bring.
