Asia leads the way in BYOD

Asian IT managers are the world’s most bullish on the benefits of Bring Your Own Device (BYOD).

While 80% of IT professionals worldwide think that enterprises with a BYOD policy hold a competitive advantage, that number rises to more than 90% in China, Indian and Singapore.

And when it comes to implementing BYOD, 96% of Chinese, 91% of Singapore and 86% of Indian IT managers said their organisation had or will have done so in the next two years, well above the global average of 81%.

The findings come from BT-commissioned research into attitudes towards BYOD, interviewing 2,000 IT users and IT managers in 11 countries. Read the rest of this entry »

BT Global Services maintains ebitda, lifts cashflow

BT Global Services substantially lifted cash flow and maintained its ebitda in the March quarter, the company’s latest financial result reveals.

Cash flow in the division soared 134% to £164 million ($265 million) for the quarter, while ebitda was £186 million, compared with £184 million in Q1 2011, on 4% lower revenue of £1.996 million.

For the full year ebitda rose 6% to £627 milllion, despite a 4% slide in sales revenue to £7.81 billion.

The company reported an £849 million operating profit for the quarter, up 24%, with cash flow beating expectations to rise 56%. Read the rest of this entry »

Equinix to host BT Radianz Venue rollout

BT has selected Equinix data centres for the rollout of BT Radianz Venue, our cloud-based high-performance service suite.

Under the agreement, we will offer our BT Radianz Venue capabilities from Equinix’s data centres, adding another ten financial ecosystems in North America, EMEA and Asia Pacific to the global footprint.

BT Radianz Venue is designed to enhance BT’s low-latency proximity hosting capabilities, delivering interconnectivity between trading venues in the world’s top financial markets.

Gartner names BT as industry leader in three key segments

Magic Quadrant: Global Network Service Providers

Research firm Gartner has identified BT as a leader in Asia-Pacific telecoms and two other key business areas.

The latest Gartner Magic Quadrant has positioned BT in the Asia-Pacific Network Service Provider, Global Network Service Provider and Pan-European Network Service Provider Leaders’ Quadrants.

Gartner said leaders have a full portfolio of voice and data products, above-average service and support, wide global coverage and competitive pricing, as well as “a strong vision that includes adopting more information and communication technology (ICT) capabilities.”

BT Global Services CEO Jeff Kelly said recognition in the widely-respected Magic Quadrants “reflects the success of our global strategy, and our investments in these high growth economies in support of our customers.”

BT launches pioneering cloud platform for life sciences

BT has launched a first-of-its-kind cloud service designed to enable closer collaboration in the life sciences industry.

BT for Life Sciences R&D has been developed to become a secure platform for scientists in pharmaceutical, biotech, device and diagnostics companies as well as in academia and government.

It is designed to allow customers to comply with the industry’s stringent security and compliance requirements.  Using BT for Life Sciences R&D, scientists will be able to test new drugs via computer modelling, develop data pipelines to identify new drugs, and to create global project groups and collaborate using social media.

BT has already signed Boston-based Berg Pharma as a customer for the new platform. Read the rest of this entry »

BT Assure beefed up to protect against BYOD, cloud threats

BT has strengthened its BT Assure security portfolio to provide better protection for customers against emerging BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) and cloud threats.

The innovations follow a survey of more than 2,000 IT users and decision-makers which found that the biggest security risks on enterprise networks were accidental or intentional employee data loss and increasing use of personal devices.

The use of employees’ own laptops, tablets and smartphones is fast expanding within the corporate environment – an average 60% of staff use personal devices for work, with the number rising to a staggering 92% in China and 80% in India.

BT’s “Rethink the Risk” research concludes that organizations now need to actively manage their security. The traditional secure perimeter security approach no longer exists and IT groups must deploy specific tools to measure, understand and address the new security environment. BT Global Services and other UK-based Olympic partners hosted customer events in Hong Kong and Beijing last week to promote their involvement in the world’s biggest sporting event.

Neil Blakesley, BTGS vice-president marketing and one of the key speakers at the event, said that while the Olympics presented a golden opportunity, the driving force behind the strategy is the group’s innovative Key Account-Based Marketing programme.

It began as an initiative focused on BT’s key accounts but was quickly adopted as a strategy by the Asia-Pacific team to map out key customers and influencers, Neil said.

BT once again named Asia’s Best Managed Services Provider

For the third year running, BT has been awarded the Best Managed Service Provider at the Telecom Asia Awards.

The 15th Telecom Asia Awards, held in Bangkok on April 18, are the region’s longest-running industry awards, recognising achievement and leadership in Asian telecommunications, with an emphasis on innovation and financial performance.

The judging panel noted that BT was a clear winner in its ability to balance effective management with creating and executing on new opportunities.

BT renews partnership with Anglo American

BT has announced a five-year, $220 million worldwide contract with Anglo American, one of the world’s largest mining companies.

The contract covers all Anglo American’s networking requirements at several hundred locations around the globe, BT announced today.

We will deploy our BT Connect portfolio of intelligent networking solutions to meet Anglo American’s requirements in 15 countries in Africa, Latin America, Asia and Europe.

BT named Riverbed India Partner of the Year

IT infrastructure specialist Riverbed Technology has named BT as its India Partner of the Year 2011.

The award recognises companies that have successfully implemented Riverbed solutions or have grown revenues and business in partnership with the firm.
